What was it?

Here in Austin at a now departed Mexican restuarant calleld "Las Manitas" I used to get Caldo de Res. It had a vegetable it it that was like a blend of potato and turnip. I was told the name of it several times but always forgot. Can anyone, especially someone from Austin, help me to remember the name of this thing? Thanks, Joe in Austin.

    Maybe chayotes?

      Chayotes would be a traditional ingredient.

        I love the mirlitons, had some stuffed mirlitons the other day. That's what the chayote is called in my former neck of the woods.
