We are spending 4 nights in SF next month...Thanks to all of the posts we know we want to go to Canteen...Mexico DF doesn't seem worth it for "upscale Mexican" and we have Maya in NY so would Colibri be a good choice? I'm wondering of Boulevard is a good choice for an upscale restaurant or are there better options in SF. We don't want to spend more than $70pp without wine (not trying to leave the city and head to Oakland or San Jose etc.) Lastly how is Mochica? Peruvian sounds interesting and we were trying to find something not hole in the wall but not necessarily La Mar either. Also any good Dim Sum in Chinatown?

I tried to get specific posts on Boulevard and Colibri, Boulevard had mixed reviews and Colibri had small mention at best. Thank you wolfe for the extensive list for Dim Sum. I will check out what is said about Peruvian

Colibri has a great selection of tequilas, an excellent bar overall, fantastic guacamole and fresh-made tortillas. I haven't had anything else in two dinners there that I think would make me recommend it.

I'd not recommend Colibri, I thought the prices were way over priced for what you got, and I did not think the main courses were all that good either. If you like seafood, I'd' recommend Farallon. I've eaten there a couple times recently and have enjoyed their food and service immensely.

I've heard that Farallon was good! If not Colibri how about Mamacita? It seems as though there are no good Mexican restaurants in SF other than taquerias in the Mission...I was hoping to get something a little more creative/upscale since we are on vacation. There are some great mom and pop mexicans in NYC now (our Mexican population has expanded a great deal) but generally speaking the Mexican on the West Coast is better.

I eprsonally prefer dimsum at City View (sort of more financial district). I trust the ingredients more at the place and I feel the food is fresher. HOWEVER, it is more expensive than Chinatown. Else, after that I'd go to Great Eastern. (But the quality drop is significant). Another great, but very expensive place is Yank Sing.

After doing some research with links from another hounder I think you are right...Chinatown isn't the way to go for Dim Sum. Have you been to Koi Palace? I've heard mixed reviews on the boards...wondering your opinion? Better than City View? Yank Sing doesn't seem to be worth it for the money according to most posts.

On that thread the picture guide to dim sum is for a Mac. Tit tat also provided a PC translation.
