Hong Kong Plaza (West Covina) Revisited

I recently discovered two Indonesian eateries in the Hong Kong Plaza Food Court in West Covina. I did notice older posts (circa 2005) about the plaza but haven't seen recent posts. I want to bring attention to two places.

Kedai NIKMAT
Hong Kong Plaza Food Court
989 S. Glendora Ave. #18
West Covina, CA 91790
(626) 337 1111

Raso Minang
Hong Kong Plaza Food Court
989 S. Glendora Ave. #15
West Covina, CA 91790

Raso Minang serves Padang style food, in this case rice and entrees. I had the chance to have some chicken stewed in curry, fried boiled eggs, and fried fish. I don't know the name of the dishes since I basically just pointed. The chicken was very tender and the curry very flavorful. The chilis provided with the meal were nice and hot. The meal reminded me of very good home cooking and satisfied my appetite.

I also had the chance to taste a satay from Kedai NIKMAT which was very tender and well spiced. I have to say that I like Indonesian style satay much more than I do Thai style satay, even though I'm Thai. The satay sauce was slightly sweet and pleasant. If only I had Thai style pickles with it ( th. aajaad ), I would have been very happy.

The Food Court itself contained a Pilipino place, a Congee place, and Janty Noodles which was reviewed on Chowhound before. The Food Court was slow on Sunday. The shopping center had people but it was not the kind of traffic I'm used to seeing in places like Monterey Park or Alhambra.

If anyone happens to pass by the neighborhood, go in, and eat something, and report back.
