Huntsville, AL
Some friends and I are going to Huntsville for a photo expedition in mid-February. We're looking for some recommendations please. We'd like to hit some well-established local spots. Not fine dining, but just representative or favorite places. It's a guys' weekend so any bar or tavern suggestions would also be welcomed.
Thanks in advance!
When we're in town we ALWAYS hit Dreamland. They're some of the best ribs I've ever had.
There's a Hooters right down the street for some Apres dinner if you so choose.
Little Paul's BBQ across from the hospital is also a good bet for BBQ. I'm not a fan of back ribs and that's what they use for their ribs. Mrs. Sippi loves their pulled pork while I opt for the Brunswick Stew most times.
Wild Rose Cafe on the square has great meat and 3 but it's breakfast and lunch only. Get there too late and all the good stuff will be gone.

If you want home cooking go to lunch (or breakfast) at Blue Plate, it isn't open on Sunday. They have great catfish on Friday and Chicken n' Dumplings. They have a set menu of about 4 entrees and all are good (they close at 2pm ). For German, I like Ol Heildberg , for seafood there is a new place , Wentzell's Oyster House. Mexican I like Phil Sandavals (near Old Heidberg). Italian I like Carraba's (a chain but good) or if you want to splurge a bit go to the Chop House downtown for one of the biggest steaks ever, but pricey. If you like Indian there is a nice place on Jordan Rd (south of University Dr) but I can't recall the name. It has a green awning and is before you reach I 565.

Greenbrier restaurant for Hush Puppies and Catfish.
Big Bob Gibson's for BBQ in Decatur.
The two best I've found so far but, there are other good places I need to try. ;)

Alabama Crawfish Company and Restaurant.
It's on 72 E on the outskirts of town.
Great Cajun fare. We had pistolettes, shrimp po boy and fried catfish. They also serve tamales made by a little old man in the Mississippi delta.
They do crawfish boils on the weekend but we weren't able to get one since they were sold out.

For classic burgers drive to Athens for Dubs. No beer, but nothing's changed for decades.
My favorite happy hour is The Scene at Bridgestreet. The menu is an amazingly good deal. If you want to see a movie and you eat at The Scene they'll upgrade to the Prive. This section of the theater has it's own bar.
At the other end of Bridgestreet is Cantina Laredo. They make an excellent mole'. The price fixed menu is an excellent deal.
Edited to add
The Schnitzel Ranch on University is much better German food than Old Heidelberg. Not fancy, but German size portions.
