Good Eats Near Jorge Newberry Airport?

BA Hounds,

I will have a layover for a few hours at the domestic airport in Buenos Aires and was wondering if there was any good place for some chow nearby. I have never been to the airport or around it so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  1. it depends what you consider a "good place" to eat. The airport is pretty isolated, you must take a taxi to get to anywhere to eat in a restaurant. However, you are right across from the costanera or river boardwalk. Along the costanera there are tons of out door parrillas. These function a bit like stands at the country fair in the US. At these parrillas you can buy several types of beef, bondiola (pork) or a choripan (a sausage simular to a brat). They will also have a variety of sauces to put on your food such as chimichurri or salsa criolla.

While this is not elegant dinning, by any means, it is very tipical. the other day i got a coke and a choripan for 8 pesos and i couldnt finish the choripan.

Thanks for the reply. I am not looking for gourmet by any stretch or large portions or anything like that. I just want it to taste good.

    2. Hi there. If you get a taxi to the other side of Av. del Libertador, there are a few good places to eat in Palermo. For a light lunch I would highly recommend "Voulez Bar" (they have fantastic fresh sandwiches, tartas, patisserie and daily menues including brunch). It is on Boulevard Cerviño and Lafinur. Also, a great place to go to is 'Guido's Bar" and Italian-style cantina with a fixed lunch consisting of a tasting menu of whatever's fresh on the day. It is on República de la India between Gutiérrez and Cabello streets.
However, if you wouldn't mind taking a 15 minute walk, the Fishermen's Club (Club de Pescadores) is well worth a visit. It is situated on the Costanera (Av Rafael Obligado) not far from Jorge Newbery Airport and it's got a restaurant that serves pretty good food. The highlight is the beautiful glassed terrace overlooking the Río de la Plata. You can also see the planes taking off and landing from there. Here's the Wikipedia link:
