    1. The Rolls Royce of Sugar Shacks is Sucrerie de la Montagne in Rigaud (45 mins from Mtl) Owner Pierres' life is sugaring off and you can see it in the great organization he has behind him to insure that every bodies visit is "special' or for the full experience stay in one of the 4 cabins he rents overnight.Great food, great entertainment, sliegh rides and all kinds of stuff to keep the kids busy.

        1. Here is a good article in yesterday's New York Times on Montreal "Cabane a Sucre" in particular Sucerie de la Montagne. http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/02/08/...

I went on SdlM on Sunday, a bit early in the season so no taffy. The food was great, and the people were really nice. A bit pricey for what it is, but I guess it's not something that I do everyday so it was acceptable.

IMHO it's not early in the season, february is still pre-season.

Agreed. It's not the season til at least March, even mid-late March.

Anyway, there are much closer cabanes. One in Sainte-Julie is probably the closest to the city, and one in Ste-Eustache is closer and recommended by some friends. I don't know the names, but a google search should find 'em quickly with the leads I've given.
