Good news for Port Jeff

I just found out they're going to be putting an Uncle Giuseppe's where Stop & Shop used to be (in Port Plaza on 112). It will open next year.

Not as close as I hoped their next location would be, but good enough! Fairway needs to open a location out in Suffolk now.

  1. Trader Joes should come farther east too, then life would be good. I've never been to Uncle Guiseppes , as I never rarely go past the Smithhaven Mall area , how far is it from there anyway? I think I am overdue to check it out, everyone I know has been there but me!

The Smithtown Uncle Giuseppe's is on 111 just south of where 111, 25 and 25A meet. It's about 10 minutes west of Smithaven. I'd say it's like an Italian Fairway, but it's not quite as good.

Ugh, I hate traveling to the North Shore though...The South Shore of Suffolk is so neglected when it comes to stuff like Trader Joe's and other alternative supermarkets. I'm still waiting for something to replace the old crappy Waldbaums in East Patchogue. Supposedly, I heard Shop Rite, but I think it fell through.

I will have to add this to my triumverate of shopping spots with which I reward myself after doctor visits near Stonybrook: the Oriental Store in Lake Grove, Trader Joes and now Uncle Guiseppes. I know it won't be Arthur Ave but I have to take a look anyway. Fairway is a must when I have business outside Suffolk, maybe once or twice a year. Ha ha, I always reward myself with food shopping, like most women go clothes shopping. It's good to have to drive aways away or I'd be there everyday. Thanks for the info!

    2. I made one trip to the Smithtown store, and I just don't get what the fuss is about. Perhaps because I'm close enough to shop Fairway? What is it there that folks find worth a trip?

I'll be waiting to hear too. My friend yesterday said her husband loves it because when they go in late, the sushi is all half price. Not much of a recommendation. They ARE part of a grocery chain, right? But the name comes up all the time anyway.

I finally went to Uncle G's today, and while they had a few interesting hard-to-find items, the prices were way up there. Not quite the excitement I was expecting, and not worth going way out of my way. I have a meeting in Nassau County in April and looking forward to a pit stop at Fairway.
