I've never been and it was always at the top of my "to eat" list!!!!! What can we do?

i saw that on LJ and was about to post it myself.
they will be having some fundraisers soonish, so there will probably be some opportunities to contribute, etc.

i wonder what other local places will close its doors due to the economy...

Contribute? I'd like the $60 back I paid for gift certificates that I bought just before Christmas, and the giftee's of of those certificates never had the chance to redeem them.

We were swindled. They knew they were going to have to close and continued to sell gift certificates they knew they would probably not have to honor.

Why should I have to pay them for being a good customer, recommending them to friends (at my expense), while they make "bad business decisions" and leave me stuck with the embarrassment of having passed phony gifts to my friends.

Good riddance, Artz. You did good business and there's no reason you couldn't pay your taxes like the rest of us.

I highly doubt that they knew they were going to close the doors. Most business people think they can weather out the storm. There is a big difference between being a swindler and being a bad business person.

What business doesn't get at least 30 days notice from the IRS, SS and Workforce Commission that they want their money, or else...?

They knew for a lot longer than a month that they were up shit creek without a paddle.

On a much better note, I'm going to offer to buy back my GC's from my recipients and trade them for some place that will hopefully be open longer than Artz. I'll use the GC's myself her in the next week before they have a chance to stiff me with them a second time.

Since I'm not the original poster of this information, I feel a bit uneasy posting this on one of the BBQ threads on the Texas Chow board. I would like to suggest that you do so. Lots of people in Texas enjoy Artz when they are in town.

If it's not on the Texas board in the next day or so, I'll post it... I hope you don't mind.

Thanks for the info I'm coming down to austin in a month or so and had this spot on my list of places in town to eat.
        I wish them the best

Sounds like the fund raiser was a huge success, and Arts is back open. According to Kelso, he's letting the employees run it, while he cares for his wife.
