Baklava in Manhattan

Any suggestions? I need to buy for like 10 for a take out.

  1. The best greek sweets I've ever had were from Poseidon Bakery. Love their bird's nests too.

        me too! I like their phyllo wrapped prune things, don't know the name, but they are SO SO good.

        And I was beaten to the punch, too. The baklava at Zeytuna's is also rather good. One might be surprised to buy top notch baklava at the local market, but considering that the store is Turkish-owned, it makes sense.

          Where's Zeytuna's? What other items do you recommend there?

            Zeytuna is on the corner of John and William Sts. I have mainly relied on them for produce and meat as they are competitively priced and of high quality. They also have a reasonable selection of cheeses (a luxury in the neighborhood). The baklava is the only in-house-made option that stands out in my recollection.

              melange - one on 1st ave btween 64th and 65th and the other is right up the block on first btwn 67th and 68th
              They made about ten different types. To name a few:

              Lady Finger Baklava with walnuts and cinnamon
              Baklava Square almond
              Baklava Square Walnut
              Baklava Square Cashew
              Baklava Square Pistachio
              Baklava Square Hazelnut
              Birds Nest Baklava with pistachios

                Are you saying that Melange bakes their own baklava and other pastries?

        3. I just had the Baklava at Turkish Kitchen (27th & 3rd) yesterday. It is absolutely phenomenal. So good in fact that the four of us each ordered an extra to take home for dessert later this week.
