Hana Japanese Market: ethnic food gem in Adams-Morgan/U Street

I don't think anyone's posted on this yet, but a new Japanese market opened up a few months ago at U and 17th St. I finally did a thorough exploring yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of stuff offered. I know very little about Japanese food, but I scored some exceptionally fresh and delicious mochi chunks from the refrigerator case. Like no mochi I have tasted before. They also have some other fresh Asian baked goods. I look forward to dropping by this place for the occasional pastry treat, and also if I ever get around to trying any Japanese cooking.

    1. Is there fresh produce there? How are the prices?

Yes, they have some fresh produce (cabbage, mushrooms,..um, a bunch of stuff I didn't recognize). I did not notice the prices on those, but the tofu was cheaper than what I usually pay at the grocery market. I think it was $1.70. They do have coconut milk for $1.50...not cheap, but not outrageous.
This place is definitely not cheap by Asian market standards, but I don't think Japanese markets in general are. They also have very little that is not Japanese.

      2. Do they have a fresh meat section?

Oh no. This place is tiny. They have several refrigerator cases, but this is no H Mart!

Pity... I have a friend that recently moved into the area and was wondering about a good source for shabu shabu (sliced) meats...
