We're returning to Banff next week. Was were there last year had a great time, and no ski trip is complete without a solid fondue dinner!
Last time we went to The Grizzly House which was tasty but had some issues. The food was decent but the lava rock cooking made the room incredibly stuffy. Possibly we happened to be there at some weird time where everyone was cooking on lava rocks at once, but the entire resturant was hazy and ventilation was very poor. The other issue was that while it's a festive place there were several people that were fall down drunk and screaming around about the phone stuff. It was amusing for about 15 minutes but became irritating. A 50 something guy was trying to dance for a table of girls near his, fell down, horrified wife buried her face in her hands. No biggie but would rather look for a different alternative. The food might taste better without all the distractions. Wobbly drunk guy at table behind ours asked 3 times where we were from.
Any feedback on Ticino or other fondue places in Banff would be much appreciated. We're staying next to downtown so would need to be there or within a reasonable cab ride. Thanks!
Cleopatra possibly we were just there on a bad night. I've heard great things from others about it. But based on negative experience on last visit and the fact that we can only justify consuming decedant cheese fondue once on a week long trip looking to check out something new.
Bananna The Waldhaus looks great. We meant to make it out to the Banff Springs last time and this would be a great excuse. I'm guessing it's pretty pricy but it sounds like a really unique dining experience that would be worth it. Thanks for the heads up!
Has anyone here actually had the fondue at Waldhause?
We ended up heading to the Waldhause last night. Really enjoyed the experience and the service was excellent. We had the Swiss cheese fonfue and didn't think it was all that great. It was really high on the flour and booze but low on the cheese flavour. Partner got the beet salad and I got the watercress with egg to start and both were excellent and tasty. We had a good time so would totally go back, but would skip the cheese fondue.
