Good Diner close to I-76 in the Pittsburgh area?

  • 5

My wife and I will be cruising past Pittsburgh on the PA Turnpike around lunch-time on our way to Michigan and would love to find a good diner for lunch. Can anybody recommend one?

We tried in vain to find Pip's on a previous trip and did go to Primanti Brothers, but we'd like to find something a bit closer to the turnpike for this trip.

  1. Take a look at Max & Erma's online, there's one off of the Butler Exit. If you get off at Monroeville you could get delayed finding a place and dealing with traffic.

If you like Primanti's there's one at the Cranberry exit next to the Hampton Inn. Not the original but same sandwiches. (Same exit for Max and Erma's unless there is another M&E at the Butler exit too.) The Venus Diner at the Butler exit used to be good but haven't been there in a few years so can't vouch for it. If you happen to be early in the vicinity you have to go to Beaver Falls to Orem's Donuts. No seating just olde timey donut shop. Only five minutes off the T-pike.

Looks like the Venus Diner is gone. Moved to Cleveland:

        I hate when that happens.

How about Dick's Diner in Murrysville? Looks like it's only about 5 miles from the TPK.

Dick's is definitely a good homey greasy spoon experience, and not far from the Monroeville exit. Just get off on 22 eastbound and go a few miles and it'll be on your left. It's kind of the quintessential diner, a few miles from where my family lives, I'd recommend it.

Awesome. Just what we're looking for!
            Thanks.
