My husband works in Sylmar, and we've been trying various Indian weekday lunchtime buffets. The places we've been to are in other threads, but I am consolidating my thoughts here to perhaps stimulate a direct comparison, the threads these places came up in were more regional in context.

So far:
Woodlands, on Topanga Canyon south of Chatsworth, the dosai selection -- wonderful, and for the buffet you can choose what you like! This I thought was great. The time I went I found the buffet dishes a little bland for my personal taste, but I prefer things on a much spicier note than most. I am sorry I can't remember the price, but I think it was $8.95.

Karma, in Valencia, $8.95, a little fancier location and place, good food. I tend to try almost every dish, except the tandoori chicken sorry, I'm more a curry and vegetable/daal person. I liked all the dishes, and they also serve a little more on the blander side rather than spice up the buffet too much. I liked the pakoras, sometimes buffet appetizers don't seem fresh, but these were great. The goat was a little chewy to me.

Punjab Palace, in Northridge, this was my favorite, a good price at $7.95. This was my favorite of the 3, and the place I would probably tend to go back to the most, because it's alittle closer, but that dosai at Woodlands almost makes up for their blander dishes. Pubjab didn't seem to hesitate as much on making things a little hotter, and they had a good selection. They had 3 chicken (tandoori, curry (I think it was basic tiki masala but a little spicer than most), and a chili onion green pepper stir fry dish I've never had), and very melt in your mouth tender goat curry, and saag paneer (spinach cheese), daal, most of these dishes a little more spicy than the other 2 places. Since I love the vegetable dishes, I wish they had a little more of that, but the food was really good. We got there at 11:35, there were 3 tables seated. By noon the place was full, and they are doing a remodeling that will make it able to handle about 40% more than they were doing. I hope they expand the buffet area itself because it is in a small corner, and we watched people having to wait and crowd each other as they went through the line!

I think all of the places were at least above average.
