Chiffon bakery closed or moved?

MartyB Jan 25, 2009 01:50 PM

Went to visit mom today in Brooklyn. I was in a mood for some danish and figured I would go to the highly rated Chiffon bakery on Coney Island Ave (Ave J & K) and was shocked to see it boarded up without a forwarding address,. Did they go out of business or did they move? A great bakery at a golden location - I don't get it.

A shame, however, that is a golden location, all that I had to do was go around the corner to fnd another kosher bakery so I was able to get my cheese danish fix.

I was a regular customer at Chiffon's for the last 3 years. I can definitely say that Chiffon's was NOT the same since the Lowy's sold it, it was 100 times BETTER!! The service was better and the owners are genuine, honest, lovely people.
I would love to know how you know so much about the "wholesale business" they are running. Are you a relative or close friend of the family?

According to my parents ,Chiffons has not been good in years. Ostrowitzy on Ave J is very good. We enjoy their baked goods .

Ostrovitzky's baked goods are very artificial tasting. You know what I mean, those pretty looking pastries that are inedible. Chiffon's always sold fresh baked goods. I never had to worry about buying something that was made a number of days ago and just sat in the store. Unfortunately, Ostrovitzky and many other local bakeries do just that. They would never admit to you that something wasn't freshly baked but would let you think it was.

I haven't been in the store, but the awning says "Chiffon Bakery" at the Cake Center on Ave P between East 2nd & 3rd

Yup they merged... but all the items still taste like the Cake Center versions.

I never had the Cake Center version, but the new store certainly wasn't Chiffon the way I remembered them.
