[MPLS] Kid Friendly, Non-Chain

Hi, Friends!

I am looking for a kid-friendly place to eat, preferrable in the western or southwest suburbs, for a Saturday dinner. By "kid friendly" I mean they can get up and walk around and not really be bothering anyone. Spacious, not too crowded (table wise) and games a bonus. The food, for them, is secondary. However, would like decent food and wine (cocktails optional) for the adults. American, French, German or Italian cuisine would please the most in the party. Would consider Mexican. Thai, Indian, Tibetian, Chinese not good for this particular group. Party will probably be about six adults and four children. Cost is not an issue.

Two suggestions so far - and I have been to neither - are Bucca Di Beppo in Maple Grove and The OK Corral (has sleigh rides?) in Jordan. Any comments on these, or suggestions for others?

  1. Buca di Beppo is part of a large Italian chain.

I recommend La Gran Colombia in NE Mpls (not TOO long of a drive from the W / SW suburbs) - great food, large portions, good service, beer and wine served, and seemed very kid-friendly when I was there. They serve Colombian and Ecuadorian food, which though it may seem exotic, has very broad appeal. You can see my review here:

    1. "Kid friendly" and "kids able to walk around" mean different things. It sounds like you want the kids to be entertained, that their being distracted is key. So I would suggest places like Dave and Buster's, or Chuck E Cheese, or Space Aliens or places like that.
I can recommend lots of family friendly places, with food families might enjoy, but most other patrons of non-kidcentric places aren't going to want kids just wandering around.

Totally agree with last part of last sentence, which is why I'm trying to be so careful about where we go. Just hoping to find an interesting place to go have fun for all on a Saturday afternoon. Thus the OK Corral as an option. TVDXER, thanks for post, too. I'm not familiar with Buca - didn't know it was a chain. Thanks, all!

      2. I've not been to 3 Squares in Maple Grove, but like the sibling restaurants, Edina Grill, Longfellow Grill, etc. They would probably suit you well.
