Best Dessert in Maui

Looking for recommendations for the best desserts in Maui...I'm primarily an ice cream and/or cake kinda girl, but I will make an exception for something out of this world. So far, I'm hoping to try Ono gelato and the Black Pearl Dessert at Mama's Fish House in Paia. I'm willing to stop by a place just to have dessert and would love your suggestions.

  1. I guess it's not in the same class as Ono gelato, but when we were there in Sept. I got a chance to try Roselani's ice cream and I thought it was pretty good stuff....

Glad you mentioned Ono - we're heading back for 12 days on 1/31 so I'll have to take a ride to Paia - maybe the same day we try to get Malasadas at Komoda (I hope)....

Years ago we liked the Caramel Miranda dessert at Avalon. It's on the menu at Mala in Lahaina but I think it's about $20 or so - seems kind of crazy for a dessert!

    1. I'm not enough of a dessert fan to venture an opinion as to what's the best, and certainly haven't tried everything available on the island. That said, for ice cream, you can't go wrong with Lappert's. They're based off of Kaua'i, but I know they have a shop in Wailea and I think there are a few others on Maui. And Stella Blue's in Kihei also has some pretty tasty desserts. Here's a photo of the ridiculously large and rich slice of decadence my daughter got on her birthday a couple of years back...

In Sept. when we were there we stopped and had some Lappert's at the store in Lahaina that sells it - it didn't seem as good as in past years.... I always thought it was great - but ice cream and gelato are different things so that might be having an influence on my opinion.

Have you ever tried the Roselani product?

      2. please try the gelato in paia. it is divine! they are amazingly creative with their gelato. one flavor is made with goat milk! i know one of the workers there, and she gives out tons of free samples. an interesting note i might add is that i saw owen wilson there. but is dosn't have any relevance. another reason is that tourism is down in paia so go support it.

        1. A friend just told us about a place called Big Wave Cafe in Kihei - he says the pineapple brulee dessert is excellent. I've never heard of the place - anybody out there have anything to say about it?

          1. Kimo's has the classic Hula Pie that is always a fav..
made with macadamia nut ice cream, chocolate cookie crust and whip cream and either a caramel or chocolate sauce..
