First time visitor to Sarasota
We will be in Sarasota for 10 days. Please recommend moderately priced restaurants for lunch and dinner. We are adventerous foodies/ eaters and will try anything once. Atmosphere is a plus but good, well seasoned food is main interest.
I agree, Sarge. Ringling is a must see. We are Art Museum groupies, I organize adult art appreciation classes and lectures for our Art Museum and Ringling Art Museum was really enjoyable. We spent 4 hours on the grounds and buildings but when we took a break to eat (and didn't want to go offsite) the restaurant was a diappointment.
Zaks -- great steaks
El-Greco -- excellent greek restaurant and also pizza's
Euphemia Haye for Duck
Dometrio's for Pizza
Yoders for home cookin
Gulf Drive Cafe-Bradenton Beach
Ezra Cafe--Manatee Ave-Bradenton
Casey Key Fish House--
Simons--lunch or dinner -- lots of veg dishes
Beach Bistro--expensive but the best in the area
De' ja' Vu -- rated # 1 in Sarasota
Divino for Italian
Ivo's -- the boss is in the kitchen and it makes a difference
Libby's Cafe on Osprey
Mattison's Forty One
I have listed my favorites, and these are my opinions. Different people have different thoughts, so when you get back home, let us know what you really enjoyed..... Have fun and good luck.
We just returned from 10 days in Sarasota and thanks to Irwin ate at some very good restaurants. Our favorite was Deja Vu, which we went to twice. The menu changes weekly and the six of us found the offerings both excellent and creative. We all ordered different appetizers and mains, and sampled each other's choices. We also went to Euphemia Haye (for their duck) on LongBoat Key. It is very romantic, charming and the duck(large portions) was very good. A bit pricey, but worth it. We had dinner at Cafe Epicure and had pizza as an apetizer(really, really good) and again ate family style, trying several of their Italian main dishes. Recommend it. El-Greco is a bargain and the Greek food was plentiful and well prepared. Lunches: we ate at Cafe Europe, Tommy Bahama, and Cork downstairs at St. Armand's Circle. Excellent wait staff and food was good at all three. We also ate Sunday brunch at the restaurant (forgot name)next to Burns Court (movie theater) and really enjoyed their preparations. We watched a sensational sunset from the bar at The Sandbar on Anna Maria Island(5-10 minutes from Longboat Key and Euphemnia Haye) . The restaurant was packed so suspect that it must be good, or reasonable. Maybe we'll get there next time. Recommended?Only one misstep in our choices--the day we toured Ringling Art Museum and Mansion we stopped for lunch at Treviso, the restaurant at the museum. It was simply awful. Everything everyone ordered was a miss.
Thanks Irwin. We hope to return and try more of your suggestions.
It seems that you got a good tasting of Sarasota. Deja Vu is one of our favorite restaurants. So glad that you didn't get to Zaks!! A very nasty man owns it, and my recommendation is," stay far far away"!!!! If you want steak there are a number of good steak restaurants in Sarasota , and trust me, Zaks is far from moderate in price!!! Next time try the Casey Key Fish House! Very good food, very casual, and what people think of as FL.!! Love Mattison 41! Try going on a Wed. night, as they have a great couple singing and playing the guitar! She sings, he plays!!
So glad to hear that I was able to steer you in the right direction.....
We do have some good choices here in Sarasota area, and we just need to find them.
I happen to like Zaks, their service and food is excellent. Not sure what Mother of Four had a problem with, but he does know the restaurant business, and he prices are steep, but when you want PRIME beef, then we must pay dearly. They also do not serve liquor, but they do have valet parking, and very east accessable, and when you leave there, you can go to the next street and enjoy drinking -socializing at CIVICHE.......
Thank you again for informing us of your likes, and come back and see us again.
When you return, let us know, and we will update you for Sarasota's Fine Dining.
