Surprise 50th In Baltimore Area

Any ideas for a surprise 50th birthday party for my wife? I'm looking for a nice restaurant-hopefully with a private room- that would be good for around 30 people, some over 80 with mobility issues. We have a caterer if that makes a difference.

  1. You can't go to a restaurant with a caterer!.
If you use the caterer you need to find a hall/ building/ mansion with a kitchen but without a resident caterer. Expect to pay $500 to $1500 for the place, depending on day of the week and popularity/ elegance of the place.

if you are prepared to ditch the caterer, there are many restaurants with private rooms. Make sure you visit, as the manager's idea of accessible and yours may be different. try googling baltimore restaurant private rooms, then come back to the board to get feedback.

Hope it is a great event.

    1. How much would you like to spend pp? That will help make choices. I also assume you would like regular American fare and nothing ethnic?

      1. Woodberry Kitchen has a private room .. not sure if it holds 30 ppl. Depending on how much you want to spend, they also do events in the glass blowing studio next door. Really neat space and great food (of course!). They won't let you bring your own caterer though...

Woodberry Kitchen's private room can accommodate far more than 30. I'd estimate over 100. But they have a substantial minimum charge (several thousand, IIRC).

You are suggesting a very tight budget, especially if it includes alcohol and a birthday cake. Try the Spy Club above the Midtown Yacht Club if that kind of atmosphere isn't too lowbrow.

        2. Thanks for the replies.

I just have a caterer in case I found a private hall that I like-I used a clubhouse at a golf course previously that was great.

I'd probably like to spend around $15-20 per person as I'm looking more towards bar-type food than formal entrees.

Thanks again for your responses and for any subsequent help-

Maybe something family style in little Italy.... I cannot really recommend anywhere for $15-$20 per person, unless for lunch........
I would suggest calling Martha Morningstar, she is the events coordinator for the Charleston Group (Petite Louis, Pazo, The Charleston, Chingale). I think their restaurants might be a little more than you want to spend, but she is wonderful, and might be able to work something into your budget. She certainly has her finger on the pulse of the private event venues in Baltimore.

            Good luck!

Give the folks at Hull Street Blues off Fort Ave a call...and we have success with Vinnies on Holabird Ave in Dundalk
