Dining Level at Grand Central

I know the upstairs market really well but not the downstairs dining level.
Do any of the downstairs places actually have good food?

  1. Cucina is my favorite for a takeout breakfast when the restaurant part is not open, even if you only want to take it out to the concourse tables just outside Cucina overlooking the skating rink. Very pleasant and excellent baked goods and coffee! Rock Center Cafe is also good, more upscale for business breakfasts or lunch. I have always like the Sea Grill very much -- food and views -- but haven't been in a while.

These look like Rockefeller Center concourse recommendations from City Kid - not Grand Central. And I do like Cucina and 'WichCraft when in the Rock Center concourse.

I must have replied on auto-pilot...I was obviously thinking of Rock Center, though I also like the Cucina at Grand Central!

      2. No, not really. Most of the places are fast food type shops, cheap chinese, a mendys, two boots, etc. Halfway to the dining concourse is the grand central oyster bar. If you stick to the oysters and pan roasts you'll do ok. They also have a takeout counter on the ramp to the restaurant. Good soups (my fav is the maryland she crab soup) and pretty good, although slightly pricey sandwiches and po' boys.

And let's not forget the lunchtime sandwich menu at the Oyster bar. Oops - sorry - I see you did mention this - can't seem to delete!

        2. I personally really enjoy the Mexican restaurant, I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Yes, Zocalo. Went there recently and was sad to see they have taken the queso fundido with chorizo off the menu.

            2. There is a Cucina in Grand Central - it's not as big as the one in the Rock Center Concourse, but it'll do - the only problem is that it is in the MetLife building and therefore not in the dining concourse. But good to know nonetheless, I guess.

There's always juniors (matzo ball soup is incredible). I tend to get a newman slice from two boots every now and then. You can also go to brother jummy's down there!

              2. Is there still a Pepe outlet there? The Pepe chain makes good panini.
