Excelsior deal

So as mentioned in that recession buster thread, Excelsior has the winter warmer special going on which I tried last nite. A friend crapped out but I thought screw it, I'm gonna get me some $8 venison stroganoff and I'm glad I did. I can't believe more people weren't there, a couple with drinks at the bar and two at a table eating some sort of food (not sure what). Started with a ginger cosmo which was nice, had a little cointreau, cranberry and wish even more ginger flavor but it barely had cranberry juice, but I enjoyed it. (Also wish the sound was up for PTI on ESPN rather than the lame music.) Of course, a $12 drink quickly adds onto the bill but I was full after my large plate of tasty strognaoff. And some bread which I had to ask for. I thought maybe beggars shouldn't be choosers but there was so much sauce, you couldn't not have bread. They brought about 6 slices of really nice warm bread and butter. There was some carrot and celery in there, lots of meat, a nice flavor to the sauce that I couldn't quite place, a great deal for $8. Next week is fried chicken and cheddar cornbread. 1/31 is beef stew and noodles and 2/7 is lamb shepherd's pie.

And they actually tell you about the specials, like the $1 oysters (on Tues. and Wed.) and an addition in the menu mentions a bunch of other stuff going on. FYI, 1/2 price pizza at the bar on Sun. and Mon. In Jan., you can create your own 3 course meal for $45. I remember doing this a couple years ago but I don't think it was choice of menu. And they've got a thing for $20 where you get two Harpoon and a pizza. You could have some great combo of things almost every nite except Sat. there.

Friday's they do two harpoon IPA drafts and a pizza for $20. Pizzas are regularly $12-15, I think, so the deal is essentally a free draft.

Thanks, is there a place, where we've gotten all the specials at Excelsior together? It's just mentioned on the recession Busters list ....
Is the Comfort Food special the same all week long?

Can't find the info on their web site right now. Last I knew (and I'm 90% sure on these), it's 1/2 price pizza on Sun. and Mon., the $20 pizza and two Harpoon drafts which I think was most any nite except Sat., $1 oysters on Tues. and Wed. and I think this is the last week for the winter warmer at $8 for lamb shepherd's pie. Not sure if the $45 3 course menu upstairs was only Jan. Threw out the little info card I had on my desk. Had the duck pizza and Harpoons last week and that was fun.

Seems as though they had this deal to get rid of the food? There's another post regarding them closing. Now it's really getting scary...

According to my very inside source, Bonfire is absolutely not coming in there. They will be reopening in the fall, new concept.

No, I think they had this deal to get *business* but obviously, they didn't attract enough....Really sad....

I went for the fish and chips a couple weeks ago, and it was also fantastic. This is definitely a deal that more people should be taking advantage of. Stick to beer if you don't want such a high liquor bill (although the Madam X mixed drink is delicious).
