Are there any great bakeries in Pittsburgh that are kosher?
I'm visiting friends in Pittsburgh in a few weeks and rather than bringing kosher desserts with me from NYC, would like to buy something fresh and delicious in Pittsburgh. Does anyone know of a really good bakery there that's kosher?
Thanks,
B
I was curious, and my initial search turned up only that the last kosher bakery in Pittsburgh, Simple Treat, had closed last summer. But, there was a note that a new kosher bakery would open in a previously closed additional location of Simple Treat on Murray Ave in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood. The opening was supposed to be in the fall. I went digging some more and finally found out the name, Sweet Tammy's, and that it did indeed finally open in December. I have no idea if it's good, but if you want a kosher bakery in Pittsburgh it would apparently be your only choice:

You're going to have a whole lot more choices up in NY, I guarantee. But it would be great to give these kids a shot for at least part of what you're planning to get.

The answer to your question is no. Still, you can get Kosher baked goods at Murray Ave. Kosher in Sq. Hill.

This is too late, but for anyone else who is wondering.... Sweet Tammys is okay, the desserts are good but nothing special, the decor of the bakery is very nice and its a decent place to sit down with a cup of coffee, but it is not run by a professional baker, So its good but not what you would expect for the prices charged. Expect to spend 25 to 45 dollars for a cake, and approximately 2 dollars per cookie or cupcake. It is a pareve bakery, therefore on dairy.
The Giant Eagle in Squirrel Hill recently switched its entire bakery to all kosher. Its actually not bad, your usual grocery store bakery options, but also reasonabley priced. Again, nothing special.
If you happen to be coming from New York or some other large city with a large population of kosher bakeries please bring your hosts some goodies from there!!!!
