I'll bite...
If you consider Ann Arbor/Ypsi to be Detroit area, there's the "dive" Blimpy Burgers in Ann Arbor. They are actually pretty good and grind their own hamburger daily.

In downtown Ypsi on Michigan Ave, there's a hole-in-the-wall diner called The Wolverine. Very old fashioned and pretty good breakfasts.

Also in Ypsi, on Prospect north of town is Chick-Inn, an authentic 50's drive-in with carhops. Terrific onion rings and pineapple shakes. Open in winter.
