Affordable Restaurant/Lounge Ideas for a Reception?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and have been browsing through old recommendations of where to have a wedding reception. There were some great ideas, but I didn't find the answer I was looking for and just have a question that I'm hoping you may be able to answer!

I plan to have a small wedding reception next May 7th, 2010. I hope to keep it at 80 guests (if not less) but am having a hard time finding restaurants/lounges. I am wondering if it's at all possible to rent out a place, and let the guests buy their own beverages and meals if they wanted. All I was really looking to serve were some sweets and perhaps some finger-foods, with the focus being on dancing and having an overall good time!

Are there any venues you can think of where such a dream would be possible? I'm even open to rooms I could maybe rent out, where I could bring in my own food and drinks.

Thanks in advance!!!

G.

Try the City of Toronto historic museums. I believe they may rent out rooms at Spadina House etc. You can find the contact information at www.toronto.ca/museums.

    Congratulations.

Thank you so much for the ideas, I'm emailing every possible venue now! :)

You will probably continue to find a restaurant or lounge that is willing to give up a Friday night's revenue on the off chance these people will actually lay down their own money for drinks and dinner. If they rent out the space they will charge you what they normally would take in that night in revenue so they don't lose out. You may be able to organize something through larger clubs such as Circa that could absorb a group the size of the one you speak of for dancing and where your guests would be able to purchase their own drinks.

Good idea, thanks! I think I'll ask my mother-in-law to be about restaurant ideas...she's a bit of a social butterfly, so maybe she'll have a better chance with restaurants she may know of. Thanks for the info & reply!
