Buttermilk donut [PHX]

ipsedixit Jan 20, 2009 01:21 PM

Where in Phoenix can I get a good dense and chewy buttermilk donut?

Krispy Kreme types need not apply.

Thanks.

I've been to quite a few donut places in the Valley and can confidently say that the Rainbow Donuts on Cave Creek's the best. Tried several varieties from glazed to old-fashioned and they were all good. I could tell that they keep their oil fresh. The buttermilk was delicious until we dropped the whole box on the sidewalk.

      Helen,

Do you find the Rainbow on Cave Creek superior to the other Rainbow locations, notably 7th Street in Sunnyslope or McDowell Road near Downtown?

I'm not sure if Cave Creek is the only location you've tried, or if you've encountered variations from one Rainbow site to another. I ask because the two locations I've mentioned are much closer to home for me.

I've only tried the one on Thomas and found it to be not as good. Talking to the owners we found that each Rainbow is unrelated to the others and don't share the same recipes. I learned about the one at Cave Creek from a tile store in the Scottsdale Airpark, where one of the employees buys donuts for the store everyday.

Thanks. That's good to know, and I will evaluate each Rainbow separately from now on.
