Looking for good risotto

jamtart Jan 19, 2009 09:11 PM

I've been craving Risotto lately but I have no idea where to get some. Anybody know a place that's not upscale?

I had the seafood risotto at Figaro's this weekend and recommend it highly (as well as the turtle soup and the mussels marinara). The seafood was fresh and the risotto was just the right consistency. I don't think you can beat it for the price ($20, with a soup or salad) or the ambiance if you looking for a casual restaurant.

As an aside, Figaro's just reopened, having taken a tree during Katrina and insurance problems afterward. The owner was very nice and has obviously put allot of effort into the re-opening. I believe it is better than ever and plan on returning often.

Funny as soon as I read the original post, I immediately thought of the very good risotto I used to get many years ago at Figaro!

I did notice they have reopened, but frankly, stopped going many years ago after they went downhill. So you are telling us that it's back up to snuff again? I have an office down the street a few blocks and would be great if I could go there again.
What else have you been getting there Pilaf? I'm going to start a new Figaro thread.

The Store on gravier in the CBD has an excellent crawfish & squash & grilled asparagus risotto, thursdays only.

this is a lunch place open during the week, the guy used to cook for Firehouse. excellent salads and some pretty good specials

I must try this. I'll be there Thursday, kibbles, if you'd like to meet for lunch. Unless of course something happens at work but I don't see that happening.

Oh my. That risotto is sinfully rich and the grilled asparagus was perfect with it. Good call kibbles. Three of us went today and all had the risotto on your recommendation. Everyone loved it. We all want to go back and try more dishes.

Seafood Rissotto was quite good, although i thought the portion size was kinda skimpy
