Anything near Runyon Canyon?

rd135 Jan 19, 2009 10:10 AM

I'm visiting my girlfriend who just moved near Runyon Canyon at the end of LaBrea. I'm only familiar with the Westside where I love places like The Border Cafe, Killer Shrimp (rip), Figtree Cafe, Broadway Deli for bfkt., Versaille Cuban, etc.
Can anyone recommend places close-by that aren't just for "special occasions" price/attitude wise. We like almost any cuisine except Korean or Sushi.

I've read about Los Feliz and Silverlake but hoping to find something closer, or
if not closer, than in another direction. Are there any small joints nestled in the hills? Or places that in Bklyn we might consider our regular fixture in the nabe. thx in advance!

If you are looking for breakfast / lunch (not open for dinner) then:

I haven't been to any of these, but here are some nearby places I would try if I lived there:

          - 25 Degrees (burgers, open 24 hours)
          - Robert's Russian Cuisine
          - Bossa Nova (Brazillian, open until 4 am daily)

They should be all within walking distance.

          Bossa Nova also delivers.

Note that 25 Degrees and Bossa Nova have their detractors on this board, but the reviews seems to be generally positive.

          25 Degrees Restaurant
7000 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028

          Bossa Nova Brazilian Cuisine
7181 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046

          Roberts Russian Cuisine
1603 1/2 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028

I wholly second 25 degrees! It's become a burger joint to which I take visiting friends, a self-imposed restriction or I would be there far too often. Also, it's in the Roosevelt hotel where the first Academy Awards were held - beautiful old spanish tiles, etc.

one of my favorite places to go after Runyon is the Whole Foods salad bar at Fairfax and Santa Monica... i know it sounds dull, but there's so much there, and so many healthy options.

little drive down la brea there's Sante La Brea

            Aroma on Sunset

Solar de Cahuenga at Franklin and Cahuenga

            Lucky Devil's down Hollywood

            101 Coffee Shop

            Magnolia or Bowery

I second Lucky Devils, though they're nearly a mile from the top of La Brea.

Sante La Brea is about two miles from the top of La Brea, so not exactly "near".

Just a mile or two east on Franklin and then up Beachwood to Hollywoodland is the Village Coffee shop, a funky, laid back industry hangout with good breakfasts and lunches.
