2009 Restaurant closings (and openings) in Toronto

2009 promises to be a bumper year for resto closings. Most of the time, however, when a restaurant closes another opens in the same space.

It is much cheaper and quicker to open a resto that is already built out, equipped and licenced than to start with raw space. Rents might be more negotiable as well. Opportunity sometimes knocks at 10 cents on the dollar!

If you know of a restaurant that appears to have closed recently please post it here. You may save a Hound a wasted trip across town or give an entrepreneurial type a heads up on an opportunity.

The ones that come to my mind at the moment are:
Boba (2008)
Ichiban (Yonge & Eg)
Mirabelle (Yonge & Hillsdale)
Cappocaccia (Yonge & Balmoral) Drove by Thursday at 6:30 pm and lights were out ,
could be holidays.

Sunset Grill is gone at Yonge and Wellesley, and it's going to be another location of Sushi Supreme (sushisupreme.ca)...don't know when the new place is going to be finished.

The one problem with threads like this is that they usually get lost and forgotten if there's no posts to them in a day or two, since they quickly slip off the front page of the forum. Anyone know how to request that these threads be made sticky so they'll always be at the top?

Craft Burger just opened a new location on Yonge and Cumberland

Capocaccia is NOT closed. I just spoke to them.

I like the idea of this list, but if we could limit it to confirmed kills it would be more useful. Furthermore, it won't harm the business of places that are actually still open.

Fair enough.
Because I could not confirm I suggested it might be closed for holidays.
I am delighted all is well there.

Closed: Eggstacy on Bay St (N of Bloor) - to be replaced by another Sushi restaurant.

They posted that Kubo Radio was closing in early December.
