Any thoughts on a decent place to have lunch, perhaps a drink, and enjoy the ceremony with a bunch of fans? Perhaps some sports bars will tune in? Does anyone know specifically of some places that are planning on doing that? I know Green St is doing something, but it seems like an evening thing. I want to watch the big speech live...

McGreevey's on Boylston is one place. It's an event to celebrate the work of Boston's Citywide Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity (suggested $10 or $15 at the door) so it will be a diverse, jubilant crowd! Food and drinks will be off the menu. No RSVP necessary.

(I think Somerville progressives are gathering at Orleans. And, Upstairs is also hosting an event. I think it could be VERY fun to make the rounds!)

Every time I have been in Deep Ellum on a big political day, they've had both TVs on to CNN and turned up. I'm more of an MSNBC guy, but that's a good spot for a lovely beverage and some above-average bar food.

I was at the Beacon St. Tavern last week, and Paul Walsh, the manager invited me to an Inauguration Day Party, as he put it. I'm not sure what time they will be opening, but he offered champagne and snacks. I'm assuming there will be a menu as well. They have a huge TV screen and an excellant projection system. I reminded him that this was not a holiday and with a brogue and bravado that only the Irish can muster, he told me that every American should be celebrating this day. I'll be there.

I'll bet that it could be perversely fun to have lunch / drinks at the Oak Bar. I remember being there one evening when Mitt Romney came in with a bunch of hangers-on and minders. Wicked impressive. The thought of watching *some politicians* drown their sorrows is probably more amusing to me than it should be.
