Girl's Dinner/ Cocktails - looking for relaxing place w/ fireplace...any ideas??

Hi All - I am meeting 6 old frinds from College for dinner in February. They want to find a good place, with a fireplace, to sit in front of, relax, and have some cocktails. We can always go somewhere else for dinner...but are looking for a nice place to kick back at, be warm, and catch up. Any suggestions?

  1. Would you please mention what area you are you thinking of? Knowing that would be helpful.

Yes I think that would help a lot. Earle Ct.

    2. Sorry. Lack of sleep (I have a newborn). Things are fuzzy these days. : ) We are looking at the Providence area. Everyone is meeting around the Westin. We can drive though. I have had friends suggest the bar at the Westin, I also had a rec for Remmington House in East Greenwich. I know the area well, so driving is not an issue.

The two places that come to mind right away are not really near Providence but they both have a great "fireplace with atmosphere" and great food. Up River Cafe in Westerly and The Clarke Cooke House in Newport. Sienna in East Greenwich has a great cozy atmosphere, plus food but no fireplace. Remingtons did not impress me. Good luck, it sounds like a fun time.

      2. I'd suggest calling Waterman Grille (the former Gatehouse), CAV, Pane e Vino. I know P e V has one but it might be in a private dining spot only. Pastiche (dessert only) has one but the wooden chairs aren't conducive to relaxing/hanging out.

I almost suggested The Waterman Grill also. Do they still have a fireplace in the downstairs bar area? When it was The Gatehouse it was such a charming bar.

I THINK so but I just can't recall. I won't say Waterman Grille has the best food in Providence, but it's not bad by any means, and w/so many picky plates to share, it'd be great for a group of friends. They definitely have one on the top floor (The Loft) but that might be reserved for private parties.
