Can I appease a vegetarian & someone on Atkins?

one dining mate is a vegetarian and needs more than one vegetarian option per menu, and the other is on the atkins diet. is there a veggie friendly restaurant in the pasadena area?

thanks

  1. I always solve that conundrum with Thai or Indian. Unfortunately, most Thai and Indian options in the Pasadena area are sub-par. Are you at all willing to travel a bit farther afield?

For Thai, what wrong with Saladang?

It really depends on how die hard the Atkins person is... I know quite a few that will touch Thai because they use sometimes sweet marinades even on their Mariades (Atkins folks are QUITE sugarphobic)... I've had better luck with Mexican and Mediterean...

          What's wrong with Saladang?

I might crash the Chowhound servers by trying to answer that one ...

Hear, hear. Not a fan either.

But in all seriousness - I have yet to have *anything* at Saladang that doesn't taste like it was marinated in sugar, drenched in sugar, and then served with sticky sugar sauce on the side. It's the sweetest Thai food I've ever encountered.

Most other Thai restos have non-sweet options that are fine on Atkins (I lost 40 lbs eating mostly Thai and Chinese while low carbing), but not Saladang. EVERYTHING is sweet.

      2. What kind of meal? Lunch or dinner? For Lunch the Taco spot in Eagle Rock is pretty good. They have a lot of veggi options.

        1. Middle eastern is also good for these requirements -- one can have kebabs and salad and the other a variety of Middle Eastern appetizers. There's a Persian place on Colorado near Hill that's pretty good, can't remember the name.

          1. This is a lunch, and I can travel a bit..South Pas, Eagle Rock, but San Gabriel/Arcadia are probably a bit far for a quick bite.
