Kind of Nice Breakfast Place Near SFO?

  • 9

I'm picking up an old friend from SFO next week and we'd like to have breakfast at a non-IHOP type place around the Burlingame, Millbrae, or San Bruno area. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

  1. Two places come to mind. The first is Crepevine, in Burlingame (on Burlingame Ave). You order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. Their breakfasts are great, very tasty and huge portions. Egg scrambles, crepes, french toast, and lots of vegetarian items. I usually order the Milano Crepe. Depending on the time of day, it can get pretty noisy, and on weekends it is very busy. This is literally 10 min from the airport.

The second is Nini's in San Mateo. on Bayswater/Idaho. This is table and counter service, with a nice patio in the back. I usually get the Popeye scramble. Also very close to the airport, just about 5 min further south.

There is a 3rd option, in San Mateo, on 3rd/Ellsworth, called Bay Watch, but I haven't been there in a few years. It was always good.

      1. I agree about Max's but note that it opens late and you mentioned next week-not next weekend so 11 am might be too late? I dont know anyplace else except some of the hotels near Max's.

I second NiNi's. . .love the teriyaki steak and eggs. . sounds weird but it's the best thing on their menu!

Ask for the potatoes done extra crispy!

        2. JoAnn's on El Camino Real in South San Francisco. More like a 50s diner than a restaurant. Excellent egg dishes, amazing muffins.

Ditto on Joanne - the place uses fresh ingredients in a more original combination dishes than a traditional diner and the muffins are very good. Across from Kaiser South San Francisco and by the South SF City Hall.

Another place is inside the South San Francisco Flower Mart but can't remember the name of it. It has a large sign on top of the building that faces the 101 freeway. Lots of sports memobralia inside create the interior and (note it has been a while) the food is plentyful and good.

I think that's Hogans. I've never eaten there, but my ex used to when he worked near the airport. He always liked it. BTW, isn't it a produce mart, not just a flower mart?
