If I'm not mistaken, it's Herb Alpert's new place, Vibrato (Mulholland and Beverly Glen). He's the A&M Records guy, and his partners are Robert/Gregg Smith (Arroyo Chop House, etc).

The chef is the ex-exec chef of Patina Group's N&S steakhouse downtown.

Rumor has it that they're doing jazz 'n' fine dining.

Here's a bit from the Los Angeles Business Journal about the place:

Legendary jazz trumpeter and music producer Herb Alpert has teamed up with Pasadena-based Smith Brothers Restaurant Corp. to open a steakhouse on Beverly Glen Boulevard called Vibrato.

The 150-seat restaurant will open in the Glen Center Mall, just south of Mulholland Drive in Bel-Air, and feature live musical acts, although managing partner Bob Smith said the emphasis will be on the food.

"(Alpert) wanted to position this as a restaurant first, a music club second and a world-class everything else," Smith said. "It will be world-class music that isn't confined to just jazz."

Besides Vibrato, Bob and Greg Smith own and operate Crocodile Cafe, which has seven locations stretching from San Diego to San Jose. In Pasadena, they have opened the Parkway Grill, the Arroyo Chop House and Smitty's Grill.

The two-story Vibrato will have a mezzanine area that will offer better views of the stage, Smith said.

Acoustical architect Vincent van Haft, who designed the renowned Studio B for A&M Records when Alpert still owned the recording company, was involved in the design, along with New York-based Clodagh, according to Smith.

As Clare so aptly described, it is a music and dining venue, with the food first and the music in the background early in the evening and then a possible music gig, depending on the night, etc. Opened at the end of December. Menu not unlike a cross between the Arroyo Chop House and the Parkway Grill, with the average check around $70 per person. 310.474.9400 is the number, and it is located in the former Adriano space just south of Mulholland on Beverly Glen Circle which is just off Beverly Glen itself. Very warmly done inside with a very nice and adequately sized bar.
