Halloumi cheese in Paris
hi, have to say one of my favourite cheeses is halloumi, served grilled or BBQed. But I haven't been able to find it so far in Paris. Does anyone have any recommendations.
I've tried something called "fromage de brebis", which I was told was the equivalent, but it certainly doesn't behave equivalently - if you try to grill it, it melts into a liquid mess. And the taste is quite different.

Just wondering whether you ever located halloumi. I live in Bordeaux and can't seem to locate it anywhere here either (I plan to use it for veggie brochettes).
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it in one of the grande surfaces (Champion, maybe?).
In any case, Lebanese, Greek and Turkish specialty shops also sell it. Look in your nearest one, possibly labeled as halloumi, halloum or hellim. Fromage de brebis is a large category of cheeses, which includes halloumi, given that it's made from lait de brebis.

re: OzinFrance
The 15th is home to a large Lebanese community. There are several Lebanese "traiteurs" near the Charles Michel metro station on the Avenue Emile Zola. If they don't stock the cheese, I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. If not, head to the rue du faubourg St Denis in the 10th (metros Strasbourg St Denis or Chateau d'eau) where you will find dozens of Turkish shops - Gunes, at no. 74 comes to mind.
good luck.
