A New Year, A New Location for Mister Taco Truck in Salinas
As of last fall, one of my favorite trucks, Mister Taco, has taken up a new location in Salinas. It’s now parked near the corner of Sun and Commission streets, about a block away and around the corner from its former site, and is usually here Monday through Saturday from around 11am to 6pm. The truck has a new paint job too.

Tacos have gone up a dime. A couple weeks ago I tried one with chicken asada. The chicken is griddled with zero transfat “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” margarine for a little extra flavor and less saturated fat. I also had my usual, quesadilla de maiz al pastor.

Partnering with the Council for a Healthier Salinas, Mister Taco has posted “no smoking” within 20 feet of the truck as part of the voluntary “smoke-free entryways” program. Mobile vendors in Salinas are leading the way in protecting customers from secondhand smoke.

We were there recently and had a couple of tacos. They were good, but there were no condiments, other than the onion and salsa that was served on top of the tacos. There were no pickled carrots/jalapenos/onions, etc.. The side of the truck (towards the customers) is solid metal. It doesn't even have a place to put them.

Sr. Montes didn't ask you if you wanted jalapenos? They're the pickled type and he adds them to your plate if you want them. Tacos are also topped with chopped cilantro, in addition to the onions and salsa. On Saturday he sometimes has pickled carrots/onions too, but not always, and I'm rarely around on the weekend. I do love his red salsa and the green one too. Sometimes I take a 2-cup container there for him to fill up and he charges me a buck.
