Where to buy rennet in Boston?
Hi Chowhounders,
Does anyone know where I can buy rennet tablets in Boston? I would like to try my hand at making fresh mozzarella. Thanks in advance!

I buy my supplies from http://www.cheesemaking.com/.... she is in Ashland. She sells a mozzarella kit which is a fairly affordable way to get started. BTW, the homemade ricotta is the real star of that kit.

http://www.beer-wine.com/ in woburn carries everything you need. Not sure how there prices compare to others. You can either buy online or drive up to their store just off of both 93 and 95. I went to the store recently to buy some vinegar mother and the staff was incredibly helpful and pleasant. I would highly recommend them.

Interesting! They are selling the products from cheesemaking.com. Great to know if I need some supplies faster than a mail order. Thanks!

Oh good, glad you checked them out and had a good experience. They're really nice people. I have to admit when I got their recent mail about buying hops rhizomes I gave it some serious thought... not sure I'm that hardcore, though!
I've had mixed luck with getting rennet from them, but this was a few years ago. I tend to just buy from cheesemaking.com, and have taken one of Ricki's courses as well, which she holds at her house out in the Berkshires. http://www.cheesemaking.com/cheesemak...
