Plan B West Hartford Mini Burgers

I just feel the need to post this. I go regularly to Plan B in West Hartford and have yet to be disappointed by their mini burgers whenever I order them. The burgers are always perfectly cooked and hot and the buns are the perfect texture to absorbe the meat juices.

I don't know about the other Plan B's but the originial is just so good!!!

  1. I have to disagree with you based on my experiences of eating the sliders. They're always a bit dry and overcooked...I always chalked it up to their size and cooking time. (I still order them because their regular burgers are too big for me--I'm more of a 5 Guys size myself).

I might as well throw down some more comments about Plan B while I'm here--I didn't dig their veggie burger, it was less of a patty and more of a smear of stuff on a bun. I love their fries, their beer selection and the mini lobster rolls are tasty.

Agree for the most part, but I don't like their fries, nor 5 Guys. I still say the most overlooked burger is at Joe's Pizza in Canton (they also own the Joey Garlic's). The Max group is opening a high end burger joint in the old Simmer on LaSalle Rd.

Totally agree with luvthemdogs. Joe Pizza's burger is the best!

    2. Just went to the Glastonbury "B" Saturday. Nice burger, but I really don't get the whole mini-burger fad. Fries were eh everytime I went. I'll have to try 5 Guys one of these days

      1. The burgers aren't bad but I don't like their fries. I prefer 5 guys (burgers and fries) and Joe Pizza. Although I had a delicious steamed cheeseburger at Good2Go in Avon on Monday, served with tater tots. yum....

        1. Thank you for NOT calling them sliders. Maybe it's jsut me, but that overused description just gets under my skin. I'll be in W Hartford soon, will check 'em out.

            Sorry I called them sliders...Plan B doesn't call them that...old habit.

I was only talking about the mini burgers.......the fries are definitely hit or miss. I actually like the green fries which are flash fried green beans. Being in Newington I don't think I would go all the way to Canton for a burger .......

I've been to the Plan B in Simsbury and had the pretzel burger. I thought it was fantastic. I also really enjoy 5 Guys. Their got dogs are good too. Thanks for the tip on Joes in Canton. I'll have to try the steamed cheeseburgers in Avon- Where is Good2Go?

                1. re: Foodgirl29

Good2Go is in the Old Avon Village; it's a small cozy place that specializes in comfort food for eat-in or take-out. In addition to the steamed cheeseburger, they also make a great pastrami reuben. (also served with tater tots, what can be bad about that???)

Definitely check out Joe Pizza, get the burger and eggplant fries.

                  1. re: Meesch70

Thanks for the info. I will be checking out both places soon.

I have to say I'm surprised a Chowhound in Newington wouldn't travel to Canton for a good burger. I live in West Hartford (right near Park Lane Pizza and Barb's pizza and I would knock people over to hit Yanni's in Newington for one of their meals or their Buffalo Chicken Pizza.
Tell me, what do you love in your neck of the woods (cause I'll travel to it and eat it).

                    1. re: Meesch70

Yanni's is REALLY good. I discounted it originally based on the fact that both my mom and grandmother love it but they were right, I guess the c'hound apples don't fall far from the tree.
Try one of their pizzas or dinners (Chicken Francais that'll feed you for 3 meals)...

                    2. re: masha bousha

Ugh..I miss Yanni's! So good. The husband and I used to go there atleast once a week.

Well we are willing to travel for good chow As a matter of fact my GF and I are going next week to Texas to visit friends and the first thing we are doing is going to a place called City Market which is supposedly one of the 3 or 4 best barbeque places in all of Texas. We can't wait!!!

So in in the spriit of barbeque I found a place in Meriden called Southern Que which looks like is basically a trailer at some guys house on Pomeroy Ave behind the Volvo dealer on East Main St. We are going there tonight as they are supposedly open till 8. I'll let you know how we do.......

                        1. re: jonsull

How was City market? I recently moved from hartford to mexico. I tried to go there on both of my drives down to Mexico. First time there was no brisket, only Ribs and sausage. They were fantastic. Second time they were closed. Saturday night at 6:30PM. Ended up eating at a BBQ place in san antonio on the riverwalk which was AWFUL. They do make bad BBQ in Texas.

How was southern Q? I have never really been all that satisfied with BBQ in Hartford. I like Cookhouse and thats about it. Little taste of texsa isnt bad. I think the kind you make at home is better.

Back to plan B how do they make the burgers so juicy? Are they 80/20 chuck? do you think they coarse grind the meat? they kind of fall apart in your mouth...

                          1. re: hokiefan

I posted on the Texas forum about my favorite Texas barbecue. It's on Black's had the best brisket and City Market had the best sausage imho. They were all real good tho.

I also was not impressed with the Riverwalk either. Too touristy for me.

The night we went to get the Southern Q was rainy and cold and that might have influenced my thoughts on it but I was not impressed. We got pulled pork and brisket. The sauce was vinegar based with not tomato at all which was not my favorite. I'm not sure the brisket was actually brisket or maybe top round. It was not tender at all really chewy and with the same vinegar sauce. The pulled pork was decent but I just don't think is worth going out of your way for.

I used to like the Cookhouse when it was in East Hartford but now it is only in New Milford which is not a direction we usually go.

In April we are going to go back to Hill Country in NYC which we've been to previously and had Texas quality brisket and sausage. I just don't see getting any barbecue in CT before then.

As for Plan B the meat is coarse ground and I bet it is 80/20. I'll have to ask the next time I'm there (which is pretty often). Still my favorite. I went to Northampton today with my daughter and ate at Local Burger and was not impressed. Burgers were ok but not great. Not worth recommending imho.......
