Rustic Italian Resto in YYC

Any suggestions for a traditional-but creative- Italian restaurant, downtown or south,?
Probably the owner is the chef (and likes his/her own food), and food and wine is infinitely more important than the silverware or the stemware. Maybe the menu changes depending on the best available ingredients for the day? Maybe there isn't even a menu, you just trust the chef that much.

If anyone has ever been to Salvatore's Trattoria E Ristorante in Point Edward near Sarnia under the Bluewater Bridge, well, you know what I mean.

I second Sugo. It has a menu that changes almost every day, very Rustic Italian. Sugo is definately the place you are looking for.

Buon Giorno, while very good, is more of the North American Italian food style. IT doesnt really fit in with Rustic Italian.

We had a dinner event at Capriccio last week and the food and prices were both great! One of the best tomato/mozzarella salads I've ever had - they get their cheese from Italy. I'll be going back regularly!

I recommend Buon Giorno on 17th Ave SW. Good food and I think it has the atmosphere you seek.

Also: hurrah for the Sarnia shout-out (kind of)!

My husband took his staff (total of 20 ppl) to Sugo on 9 Ave and we had amazing food (and outstanding service). Due to the size, we ordered off a smaller menu but everyone was very pleased with their meals. Highly recommended.
