MSP: Quang's Seabass Soup

What's the big deal? I had it this weekend. It wasn't, IMO, all that special. After reading the posts on this board, I guess I was expecting something with a bit more flavor.

  1. <shrug> I don't know what to tell you. If you don't like it, you don't like it. I think the broth is very nice and the fish holds up well in the hot broth. The shrimp they throw in are rather small and insipid ... I'd rather they leave them out. Otherwise, I think it's a great variant on a traditional dish.

      I sadly have to agree with Jim. I found it pretty bland.

    2. I love the soup. But, I always add hot sauce, lime, basil and hoisen to it, like all the soups at Quang. It is meant to be garnished with at least some of the provided seasoners for perfectness.

      And like Jordan said, not everyone likes everything.

      1. I like the soup. I like it a lot. I have had it when it was omg-amazing-let-me-climb-in-the-stockpot-with-a-straw good. I have had it when it was sorta just okay. I do not believe there has been any relationship between what point in the weekend i ordered it and its relative awesomeness.

        In the end ive found that foregoing the dissapointment of hearing from the server that they have run out is easy, and that all it takes is to order the veggie soup instead. it is consistently amazing. despite knowing that star anize and apples are the (some of the) keys i have failed to come close to replicate its deliciousness. its thoroughly cravable.

          I tried it straight-up thenI added the garnishes and some hoisin and some Sriracha sauce. Maybe I just had it on an off day. They had escargot soup on the menu too. I wanted to try it but I only have enough stomach for one soup per weekend.

          I'll try the veggie next time.

            Quang's Sea bass soup is something I always look forward to. If I didn't live 40 miles away I would have it every weekend.

              I just had the Sea Bass soup last weekend. Man I love it. If Quang's was closer I would have it every Sat and Sun. I find that most Pho's in town need a little added hoison or sriacha to kick the flavors up but I wouldn't dare put anything in Quang's Sea Bass soup. There is a buttery flavor to it they I have never experienced before that makes it unique and the fish is so tender it melts in your mouth. This is truly one of the best affordable dishes in town.
