Lakeview Restaurant - Anyone been?

Lazar Jan 12, 2009 04:55 PM

Just noticed that the much love and maligned Lakeview Lunch appears to have been reinvented.

Is it worth the visit? I was planning to visit the good ole' Lakeview, but someone told me that it finally shut down, but apparently they were just renovating.

Would love to know what the skinny is....

    is it still terrible?
was going to go tonight, because some of the menu sounds good, but these reviews has made me rethink. seemed like the best bet for the $ in the area.

ended up going to lakeview for a bite to eat on friday night, because the lineups at utopia (we were in that neighbourhood first) and pizza libretto were too long.
from most of the reviews on here i thought i would basically be eating poop.
but, i had "the turbo" (fried egg, chili garlic mayo, cheese, sauteed mushrooms, added sauteed spinach, on an english muffin) and it was very tasty. great diner food for the price in the area.
my boyfriend had a burger, which he did admit was a touch dry, when i said the reviews on here said the burgers were horribly dry. but, he thought it was pretty good still. the sweet potato fries were yummy too - crispy on the outside and soft/fluffy potato on the inside.
i'd go again if i needed a quick affordable meal in that neighbourhood.

I've been 3 times for brunch cause it's very close to home. The food was ok for brunch, service was good. But the the 3rd time, this past Sunday, the owner/manager told us it would be slow... it took an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. This is dangerously close to how the Lakeview used to be - and I don't think I'll go back.

I was there recently and did not enjoy it. The food: I ordered the butternut squash lasagna and it was bland and mushy (I felt like I had been served baby food) and the side salad had no dressing. The service: although the place wasn't even half-full, no one noticed we were there - after waiting a very long time, my friend had to get up and ask the waitress to please come take our orders. The decor: yes, they re-upholstered the booths, but they took down all the paintings and posters meaning the place has lost much of its charm. Don't bother.

Rumour has it that the place was recently taken over by some new owners. Nobody I`ve heard of. As long as they keep doing malted milkshakes and the jerk mango burger, I`ll still go.

I remember reading that one of the new owners is Darcy Greaves, he was lead singer in the band The Watchmen.

He's one of the partners, yes. The group of them (four, I think) also own The Chelsea Room, a nearby bar/lounge.

I've been. Menu is just as crappy as before. I had a dry over-cooked burger, a did the 2 of the other 3 people I was with. Nothing much has changed inside the joint, just a fresh coat of paint and some new tiles for the floor (which I advise everyone to be careful on in the slushy winter weather, 3 people went ass over tea-kettle in about 20 minutes).

They didn't even reupholster the torn vinyl bench covers?

It's such a shame because in terms of decor, the place had so much character. Further, it's in the soon-to-be-trendy Dundas/Ossington area. That being said, I ate there last summer and the food was absolute dreck, really weird waitress to boot , I think she was stoned.
