Where to buy calf's liver?
Anyone know where to buy calf's liver? Does Prather Ranch carry it? Anyone have an idea of how much it costs?
I am pretty sure that Lunardi's in Walnut Creek / Pleasant Hill carries it. Their butchers out there are great and their meats, poultry and fish always seem reasonably priced to me. The only surprise I remember getting was once paying about $5.75 a pound for oxtails.
Just saw some at Draeger's in San Mateo...pricey at $9.99 a lb.

Most Asian markets carry it, and Mexican markets that carry meat have it5. In these markets, it will be half the price of some of the other places mentioned here.
Liver is one food I would really rather have from a hormone/antibiotic, etc. free source, since the liver is where all that stuff ends up. You should call Prather and ask them. I've also seen it at Golden Gate Meats in the Ferry Building.
This is a tip I learned a long time ago. You need to find out when the liver comes in from what ever place you purchase it from. Find out who is the big cheese at the butcher shop you go to, and ask them when their order comes in. Buy it that day and make it that day.
