Good place for lunch in North SD County by beach?

A friend of mine from college and I are going to catch up over lunch in N. San Diego and were thinking of Del Mar, Carlsbad, Solana Beach area. I live in OC and am not too familiar with restaurants in that area. Could you please recommend a nice place to catch up, eat good food and drink some wine? THANKS!

  1. Try the Lounge/Bar at the Del Mar Brigantine off Via De La Valle.

    1. I had some pretty good lunches at Il Fornaio in Del Mar recently. Yes, I know it is a chain but it is still of the better Italian food you will get in SD.

      1. also in Del Mar:

        Epazote Steakhouse
        Americana Restaurant
Jake's (they serve lunch Tues- Sat)

you can search the board for each of them to read up on CH opinions/experiences.

and i don't know if anyone's tried it yet to offer feedback, but there's the new restaurant - Kitchen 1540 - at L'Auberge hotel...

1540 is excellent I'll post a review of my recent meal there. Chef prepared a 12 course tasting for us.

        2. For Italian, you will not be disappointed by Trattoria i Trulli in downtown Encinitas (between Solana Beach and Carlsbad). But be warned, they have sort of funky hours and close for a few hours between lunch and dinner. Maybe closed between 2 and 5? Not sure, check first if you're going and it's going to be an issue.

for the record, someone started another thread about Kitchen 1540, and it sounds terrific...

It's also a very nice area to walk around in.

          2. One of my absolute favorite lunch spots is Naked Cafe in Solana Beach. I recently had what had to be the best salad I've ever eaten in my life--their Autumn Salad (a special, alas). Everyone I've taken there has enjoyed it. It's not fancy, but it is very close to the beach. You can see the ocean from almost anywhere inside.

i used to love Naked Cafe for healthy breakfast/lunch (i miss having places like that right up the street from me!)...but they don't serve wine so it wouldn't have worked for the OP.
