Koolicles - Not Red Enough
I'm making koolicles for the first time - I did a gallon of dill pickles (each cut in half length-wise) and mixed the brine with 2 packets of cherry kool-aid and 1 cup of sugar, they've been marinating for 5 days, how long for the outside to get red? Does the outside get red?
I made a batch about a year ago. After about two weeks, the skin side of the pickles never got really red. The Koolaid mainly soaked into and colored the cut side of the pickles.
The recipe I used called for 2 packets of Koolaid and 46oz of sliced pickles. Maybe that's why your pickles are not a red as you desire.
