Wedding Reception in Montreal

My fiancee and I are looking for a nice restaurant in Montreal to hold our wedding reception in September this year. We're looking for a room that holds around 100 people. We're looking for something either in Laval or Montreal - a venue that serves good quality food, the room has a nice intimate feel, and possibly a dance floor. If possible, we're trying to avoid the big generic reception hall venues. Our budget is around $85pp (including food and beverage).
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

  1. Try Cabaret Lion D'Or. Interesting space (cabaret theater) that is fun but elegant. Their packages are $59-$67/person including meal, appetizers, service, and cake. Alcohol is separate. Food is catered from their restaurant next door, Au Petit Extra, which is quite good.

I think Le Lion d'Or might be a bit small for 100 people - I didn't visit but judging from the website it looks better suited to about 60.
I am actually getting married in october, so we've looked around a bit. We also were looking for venues that have some atmosphere. Some options we explored: Da Emma (a bit cavernous), le Marché Bonsecours (beautiful room, but you'll need your own caterer), Mount Stephen club, Mount Royal club. We finally settled on the McGill faculty club. On all of the above however, you may have to stretch your 85$ budget a bit...

I've been to Lion d'Or for shows, and it has about 250 capacity, so 100 seated wedding-style is not gonna happen.

    2. A great place to try would be Le Local on Willaim in Old Montreal.
I just got married recently and I loved it but unfortunately it was too small for us.
I remember the pricing being quite reasonable.. i dont think i would call it intimate but it would make a very cool party.

If you peruse this board you will see a few reviews of Le Local, most of them pointing out the same issues, over and over again - SERVICE or lack thereof. I would be very hesitant to trust them with a wedding reception when they can't handle regular reservations and table assignments on a normal night. The food is good, the atmosphere funky and fun, but the service sucks.

I agree the service at a regular dinner wasn't the best but the girl I dealt with for the reception was extremely professional and I would trust for a party of that size they would be on their best behavior.
For the price they were offering and the quality of the food and decor.. i still think its a good bet. Much better than what else is out there for a party of that size in that price range.

      2. Hi there! just reading your post now and was wondering if you ended up actually having your wedding at Le Local ? I love the look and feel of the restaurant but am curious about how many people it can actually fit (we will have about 100 guests), if they will allow us to rent out the restaurant vs. the event space upstairs, and what the service was like... if you get a chance, please let me know where you netted out with this place :)
