Pre-Theater, Not Italian

SMJ9 Jan 10, 2009 03:05 PM

Going to a Sat. night performance on 44th St. and we are looking for a pre-theater meal that's not Italian. While it would be easiest to stay in the theater district we don't have to. One member of the group really isn't a "foodie" so we are looking for something that's not to extravagant in its cuisine. It just seems like there a TON of Italian places listed as recommendations, we were curious to see what else is out there.

dbBistro Moderne, on 44th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs., is 4-star chef Daniel Boulud's restaurant focusing on contemporary French bistro cuisine. Though it is upscale, it is not nearly as expensive as his eponymous temple of haute cuisine

Marseille, on the corner of 9th Av. & 44th St., serves very good French/Mediterranean cuisine in an attractive, bustling brasserie setting.

West Bank Cafe, on 42nd St., b/t 9th & 10th Avs., serve excellent New American cuisine in a space with very pleasant, low-key ambiance.

Enjoy the show and Bon Appetit!
