Upscale Vegas Restaurants--dinner bargains?

erica Jan 10, 2009 04:35 AM

I am headed here this week (first time in decades). I've read about the seasonal $75 tasting menu at L'Atelier.
Is this offered throughout the evening? Comments? (I've been to the original and loved it) Are there any other "deals" at good restaurants--early bird, prix fixe,etc--that I should know about?

Many thanks!

I thought all the dining specials at the MGM expired on December 31st. I don't see any mention on the MGM website www.mgmgrand.com of any current specials (and the previous specials were mentioned on the site). So, why don't you give them a call just to see. We had the summer specials at Craftsteak, Nobhill and L'Atelier. Craftsteak was by far the best.

Thanks, Debbie. I read about $75 dinners at L'Atelier and at Craftsteak in today's New York Times travel section in a story on Vegas bargains..I will call them, as you suggested. What did you eat at Craftsteak?

I don't remember it all, it was so much food (served family style, as is the norm at Craftsteak). I don't think I posted about it either, though you could search. I do recall that others posted on it - search for summer specials as those got a lot more play than the ones in the fall. We really like Craftsteak anyway, whether or not the special menu is offered. And if you're interested in what to have at Craftsteak in general, there are numerous posts on that. We usually share a steak, get a few starters and sides and a dessert. The hen of the woods mushrooms are superb, I like the Kobe tartare starter and the foie gras is highly regarded. Depending on how you order, you could possibly get out of there for under $75 per person in any event, though without the variety and sheer abundance that the special menus offered. But like I said in my prior response, in the past these special menus were on the MGM website and you could download the menu for each restaurant that offered it. I don't see that now, and I'm pretty sure I read here that they were only offered until 12/31.

This may not work for you if you have already booked. We booked MGM for late Jan with their MasterCard promotion, to take 30% off the entire bill that is charged to the room (excluding room itself). I believe dining at Bellagio and MandalayBay can be charged to the room if one stays at MGM. It gives you more flexibility than the special menu, and potentially greater saving.
