Tavern at the End of the World, Charlestown

enhF94 Jan 9, 2009 11:33 AM

This used to be Tavern something else, at the corner of Cambridge St and Carter St., Somerville, or maybe maybe just across the line to Charlestown.

...last week, they reported they planned to start dinner tonight as well as hang an enormous sign. The full bar's already up and running, with amusingly apocalyptic adornments on the wall. They are stocking, among others, Rogue and Delerium Tremens in bottles.

Bartender said they're owned by the owners of the Squealing Pig in P-town, and the something else in Brighton. He showed me the Squealing menu as an example, which looked, forgive the confusion, Tavern on the Square-esque: something had truffle oil, and something else had grilled salmon.

Also space for bands, which is convenient as I hear that several bands that had booked the previous space were bereft.

The menu on facebook is VERY similar to the Squealing Pig off Huntington near Brigham Circle as well. Mars Bar Toastie and Irish Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.

Is it maybe where the R Wesley (??) Bistro used to be, in the same building as the teamsters, across the street from an Assembly of God Church??? Never mind, its further up Cambridge Street. There used to be a neighborhood bar there, a dart board, Keno, and not much more, passable burgers. I don't get why people have always considered East Somerville and Charlestown/Everett the end of the world, I think there is more chow to be found there than Davis Square and spend a lot more time there.

definitely not the r. wesley site. was by there recently and it remains a wreck inside.

that location isn't the end of the world, but kinda between a few worlds' ends. no good mbta access, not a friendly walk from anywhere and nothing else around to draw foot traffic.

The TatEotW is less than 5 mins from sullivan square and sits right in front of a few bus lines.

They don't have a website. They have a presence on Facebook though.

I really dig this place, very good beer list (at very reasonable prices), and everyone I know that's eaten there (including myself) really liked what they had.
