1st Time Back Since Katrina

kittykatkid Jan 9, 2009 05:03 AM

Hi fellow Chowhounds,
My husband and I are going to New Orleans the last weekend in January, we have been there quite a few times but not since Katrina. I have been to Commaders, Upperline, Stella, Brightens to name a few. I am wondering post Katrina what are some of the better restaurants these days? We will only be there 2 nights so I really do not want to be disappointed in either one of my two nights of dining. Thanks for all suggestions!!!

also worth considering: August, Galatoire's, Lilette, Clancy's, Martinique Bistro

Having been to only some on the above list, I cannot comment on them.

However, we were impressed by MiLa (barring a noisy group too close to our table) with regard to all aspects of the meal - setting, service and most of all, food.

You've been to some of the places that I'd normally recommend, but would say that if you have not done Restaurant August, you need to do yourself a favor and try it.

Yes, Galatoire's should always be on most lists too.

I was at Lilette and was not impressed, but it was a long time ago, they were pretty much a new establishment at the time, about 7 years ago. I went to Bayona once when I was in NOLA with girlfriends and I really liked it. My husband has never been there so I was thinking maybe Bayona one night...hounds any opinions out there?? Also Herbsaint, and August I have never to either. Thanks to all!

I have decided that Lilette will be our lunch on Friday, as it is really close to the B&B we are staying in. We should be at the B&B by 11ish and I am going to make a reservation for around noon. Does anybody know where Patio's is? I looked it up on Zagat and could not find it. Sounds like a place I would like from other posts. Sweetbreads, foie gras, short ribs, are a few things that were named. So far I am planning on Lilette& Bayona, and am still open for 2 others, with Herbsaint, Brigtens,August or Petite Grocery being some that I am leaning towards. I love frog legs, foie gras, sweetbreads, lamb, shell fish, veal, anyone have any suggestions with this being said? Thanks Hounds!

froglegs at Herbsaint are killer. I'd probably skip Petite Grocery considering your other choices.
