SF (Haight) The Little Chihuahua - Mexican French toast, plantain burritos, wild mushroom tacos, chile verde tofu?

So has anyone been to this 'Mexican-inspired' restaurant that uses Rocky Jr. chicken, Niman Ranch meat, Clean Fish shrimp. The website says they buy local and organic when possible?

The Mexican French toast is two battered flour tortillas topped with maple-agave syrup and served with plantains.

They also have breakfast tacos in additon to a breakfast burrito with potatoes in it.

There's a passion fruit margarita or Boyd's organic coffee to go with that.

Another specialty burrito is garlic shrimp.

For dessert - spicy 3 Chili Chocolate Cupcakes, and Arroz con Leche with Agavero spiked raisins.

They say they are going for healthy and fresh. No lard or trans fats. Garlic, onions, tomatoes, and tomatillos are charbroiled daily.

There has been a burrito joint at that location for years. These owners are the third since I started paying attention - it was a dirty grease pit, then was cleaned up & renovated and now finally even the food has been upgraded.

We've been there a couple of times and found it good but not stunning. I did like their bunch menu and would have loved to put them on my weekend rotation but they don't open early enough.

On the positive side its cheaper, less crowded and has less hipsters & gourmonsters than Nopalito which about a block away.

I must say this was the worst carnitas I have ever encountered. So dried up and just bland. I do however like the idea of the "Baby Super Burrito" but their overall I did not like the beans (undercooked) and the avocado/sour cream/and cheese were not properly distributed. An investment in lard would go a long way.

The chilaquiles I had were like nothing I have ever seen. An orange colored sauce coated the chips and basically was the equivalent of stadium spicy nachos. No egg included.
I get the whole Niman/Rocky ordeal and I am sure they will do well with "health" conscious eaters. But I am not going back, I need my lard. I was hoping for some decent Mexican in the Lower Haight / Divis area near my house.

I'm a huge fan of The Little Chihuahua. Now, those plantain burritos... Mmmm. Delicious. The savory beans and the sweet plantains are like a match made in heaven, especially when paired with a whole wheat wrap and the pico de gallo. I've also had the chile verde tofu enchiladas, and they're awesome, too.

Lastly, if you look for their ad in SF Weekly, you'll find a special for mimosas!

I like this place quite a bit (have only tried their burritos). One or two of the salsas are too sweet for my taste, but the pico de gallo and chipotle salsas are addictive. Also, for a limited time beers from the tap are $2. Selection is Dos Equis lager, Fat Tire Amber, Anchor Steam.

I'll have to try it the next time I'm over there, but I have to say that I have never had a breakfast burrito of any kind that rivaled decent chilaquiles. It is nice that everything is fresh etc etc, although lard does lend a special flavor...
