What's your opinion on GT Tavern Room? Special Birthday Dinner/Lunch - I need help deciding!!

I am going crazy trying to figure out where to go with my sister for my birthday meal. We've done the lunch prix-fixe at Bouley for the past two years and want to change things up. I really REALLY want to go to Gramercy Tavern dining room for dinner, but since my sis is taking me out, I think it's too expensive. I'd say that up to $70 a person would be good for food. Then we may have a glass of wine with dinner or a cocktail before.

Here are the choices (and please feel free to add your own suggestions if you think of any):

Gramercy Tavern lunch prix-fixe
Gramercy Tavern tavern room dinner
Eleven Madison Park lunch prix-fixe (to give it another shot... i had their lunch prix-fixe before and was disappointed. everyone seems to LOVE this place though.)
Convivio dinner
Jean Georges lunch
Gotham Bar and Grill lunch
Blue Hill dinner
Perilla dinner
Bar Room at the Modern lunch or dinner
Craft or Craftbar for dinner or lunch

I am also a dessert FIEND, so if there is a separate place I must go for dessert, I could go get dessert separately after dinner or lunch if it isn't at the same place as my meal.

I could also do an evening of somewhere with an excellent cocktail, a really delicious mid-range place for dinner, and a ridiculous dessert somewhere else.

Thank you, Chowhounders!

  1. Of the places you have listed, my pick would be the Convivio dinner, but if it doesn't matter whether it is lunch or dinner, I might choose the EMP lunch.

    1. had lunch at the GT tavern bar last month. was very impressed with menu, cocktails and wine selection, either by glass or half bottles as well as the rest of the wine list. i don't recall what had had for lunch but it was very good.

      1. the tasting menu for lunch at Gramercy Tavern is a great deal for excellent food (5 courses/ $55)

        1. I will do Jean George's lunch (main dining room, that is) or Craft for dinner. The best on your list IMO. I like EMP very much but I won't risk a birthday meal if you didn't enjoy it the first time.
