fershore .......thanx for reminding me I had forgotten about my previous posting.....
I keep a list on my "to go" restaurants & try to get to them all in a timely manner best I can in my journeys....Rigoletto's Trattoria is one of them. It seems to fly under the radar & I only hear good things so far. I will report back after we try it for sure.

      Take Care

    2. Hi, I always pass this place on 35. Do you know if they are open on Sundays? Many thanks--their menu looks like they accomodate a lot of diets (veg, omnivore, carnivores).

Yes they are open on Sundays and by all means give this place a try. My wife and I think that their Italian food is some of the best in Monmouth County. The owner is the chef and his wife sometimes waits tables. Not a real big space but just the right size and rustic looking. All foods including deserts are made in house by the chef/owner.

You will be welcome and provided a delicious meal as well. Portions are large so consider sharing salads & apps. They are a BYOB.

Are they located in a strip mall? If so, which one?

Southbound 35 just south of Oak Hill Road. Between Thornberry Appliance and the car wash.

RGR: It's not in a strip mall. It's a standalone building, yellowish if memory serves. Parking is in the rear.

With time off during this holiday season, we decided to try some restaurants that we have been meaning to try since our move to Monmouth County. For seven years, we drove by Rigoletto Trattoria on Rt. 35 due to its poor location and always decided to give other Red Bank places such as Basil’s T , Danny’s Steakhouse, Buona Sera, etc. our business.

What a mistake, we visited this BYOB on Tuesday evening. Its rustic interior with wooden tables and chairs was charming. The place had three larger groups (12, 8, 6 people tables) and two-4 and two couples including us. We were meet was an unsmiling hostess – you could see she was busy handling take-out orders and short staff due to the larger tables. We had a minor wait before being seated but the wait staff quickly attended to our needs.

For appetizers, we ordered the Crabmeat Formaggio and Fried Calamari. The Crabmeat Formaggio was simply outstanding (truly ambrosia); the calamari and sauce was also very good. We ordered one of the pasta specials (I do not recall the name) and Halibut Matilda. The pasta special with calms, crabmeat and shrimp was excellent; the halibut was tasty but slightly dry around the edges due to its size – they needed to insure it was thoroughly cooked due to its size. They could of used a smaller portion. However, the taste of the topping and fish was very good to excellent. We overstuffed ourselves on the appetizers and entrée and did not have desserts (definitely next time).

The service could have better during the meal. They only had one waitress (Elena) taking orders for all tables, but had numerous meal servers and busboys. Elena did a good job, but you could see her fatigue. They probably should have had one more wait staff. The only other negative is the hard wooden chairs – as the meal progresses they can become uncomfortable.

We will be going back soon in the New Year. Based on the first meal, it is one of the best Italian places in Monmouth County, rivaling Piccola Italia – one of our favorites. Time however will tell !!!

        3. We have been eating at Rigoletto's about once a month for the last year. It is by far the best Italian restaurant in Monmouth County. We had two pasta dishes last night - Farfalle Tutti and Bocatine Bella - both were outstanding. I am planning to eat the remainder of my wife's Farfalle today for lunch. They added more couple seating - I just wish the seats were a little more comfortable but I can tolerate it for great food.

I went to this restaurant a couple times over the summer for lunch. It is easy to pass by because it is right on Rt. 35 on the southbound side. From what I remember, the food was very good and the prices (for lunch anyway) were very reasonable.

Definitely worth a try if the usual Red Bank italian places are mobbed because it is only about 5 minutes outside of town. Also, as a side note, I believe that the restaurant is for sale because I have seen it listed on a few real estate websites but apparently that has not effected the food quality as evidenced by recent posts.
